Malayalam movie actor Baburaj has moved an anticipatory bail application before the Kerala High Court in connection with a rape and sexual harassment case lodged against him at the Adimali police station in Idukki.

The matter came before Justice C. S. Dias and the Court has sought instructions from the Government.

The complainant has come forward with the allegation after publication of Justice K. Hema Committee Report, which revealed large scale sexual harassment in Malayalam film industry. The actor alleges that the complainant just wants to "encash" this situation.

The complainant alleged that the actor abused her in 2018 while she was working as a receptionist in his resort in Munnar. The complainant further alleges that the actor raped her in his house in 2019 where he called the complainant to talk about an opportunity in the movie industry. The complainant said that she was resting while he came to the room she was in.

The actor has denied these allegations and submitted that even as per the complainant, she voluntarily came to his house and resided there for one day even after an alleged incident of sexual harassment.

The plea claims that Baburaj has details of messages sent by the complainant after the alleged incident, which indicates that she was close with him. He further said that the messages are of a nature prompting him to have sexual relationship with her. He argued that this would show that this was just a relationship between major people.

The petition is moved by Advocates S. Rajeev, V, Vinay, M. S. Aneer, Sarath K. P., Prerjith Philip Joseph, Anilkumar C. R., K. S. Kiran Krishnan
