The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday took on record the undertaking given by the state government that it would not take any further precipitative steps in the matter relating to and regarding fixation of High Security Registration Plates to vehicles in Karnataka, till June 12.

A vacation bench of Justice S R Krishna Kumar and Justice Ramchandra D Huddar thus adjourned the petition moved by HSRP Manufacturers Association, alleging that the government notification dated 17.08.2023 allows only "influential" HSRP manufacturers selected by OEMS and their dealers to fix HSRP on existing vehicles, till June 11.

During the hearing the Association filed an application seeking directions to extend the time limit for enforcement of HSRP to vehicles in Karnataka, which was expiring on May 31.

Senior Advocate Dr. Aditya Sondhi appearing for the appellants submitted that if the aforesaid time limit were not extended till disposal of the present appeals, the appeals would be rendered infructuous resulting in irreparable injury and hardship to the appellants.

Additional Advocate General Ruben Jacob, submitted that even subsequent to May 31 and till June 12, the State would not take any further precipitative steps pursuant to the impugned notification. However, State would file objections to the application by the next date.

Following which the court said, “The aforesaid submission / undertaking made on behalf of the respondent No.1 – State is placed on record.
