The Advocates' Association of the Jharkhand High Court orchestrated a significant display of unity and reverence on August 17, with a multi-faith worship ceremony held at the recently inaugurated high court complex.
Distinguished judges, including Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Misra, and legal professionals gathered to witness the solemn rituals that commemorated the official transition to the new premises. The event underscored the inclusive spirit of the legal community, as representatives from diverse faiths actively took part.
The worship ceremony featured participation from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, and Jain priests, in addition to a tribal 'pahan,' each contributing to the blessings bestowed upon the new court complex. The traditional offerings of 'puri-sabji,' 'kheer,' and 'bundiya' were distributed as customary prasad. The rituals performed were described as standard procedures often carried out when transitioning to a new workplace.
With 25 air-conditioned courtrooms and two halls accommodating up to 1,200 people each for lawyers, along with 540 chambers, the new complex of the High Court is designed for both efficiency and comfort. Notably, the entire campus is constructed with energy conservation in mind, featuring a 2000 kVA solar power plant that caters to 60% of the building's power needs.
In terms of sustainability, the complex is surrounded by over 4,400 saplings, fostering a green environment and ecological equilibrium. The water needs of the complex, estimated at 353 Kilo Litres per day, will initially be met through municipal supply, while additional requirements for flushing and landscaping will be fulfilled via treated water from a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 200 Kilo Litres per day.
To promote well-being, a creche is included in the building's provisions, while a spacious library spanning 30,000 square feet holds more than 5 lakh law books.
The new high court complex prioritizes safety and security, incorporating advanced measures. A comprehensive surveillance network of 500 CCTV cameras cover the premises, ensuring round-the-clock monitoring.
The multi-faith worship ceremony underscores the commitment of the Jharkhand legal community to inclusivity and shared values, while the new high court complex stands as a testament to modernity, sustainability, and efficient design.
President Droupadi Murmu had inaugurated the impressive two-story structure on May 24, with judicial operations commencing on June 12. Constructed at an approximate cost of ₹550 crore, the new building boasts modern amenities and state-of-the-art infrastructure, making it one of the largest high court complexes in the country.
Speaking on the occasion on May 24, the President had said, “Today, the Jharkhand High Court is crossing an important landmark with the inauguration of its new building. In its earlier stage, it was set up in 1972 as the Circuit Bench of the Patna High Court. This High Court was set up after the State of Jharkhand was carved out of the State of Bihar in November 2000. In barely two decades, it has grown impressively, and its sanctioned strength of judges has more than doubled from 12 to 25. The building from where it was functioning was once meant only for the Circuit Bench. Befitting its new profile, there was obviously the need for larger and more modern infrastructure to efficiently dispense justice.”
