Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

The oath of office was administered by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar at the Raj Bhavan.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his cabinet colleagues, several judges, and senior government officials.

The President of India had previously given assent to the appointment of Justice Rao as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. The Law Ministry notification stated, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer SIvi Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Jharkhand High Court.”
