Jharkhand High Court Asks State Govt By When Rs 9 Crore Grant Will Be Released For Insurance Benefits Of Lawyers

The Jharkhand High Court has recently directed the state government to file an affidavit indicating as to when the approved grant of Rs 9 crore would be released to the Jharkhand Advocate Welfare Fund Trustee Committee. 

The court passed the order while hearing a plea for providing protection to lawyers in the State, including health benefits such as a insurance, and other benefits which are admissible under the law. 

A division bench of Chief Justice M. S. Ramachandra Rao and Justice Deepak Roshan in said, "The respondent no.3 shall file an affidavit stating when grant of Rs. 9,00,00,000/- (Rupees Nine Crore) which is said to have been approved by the State Government to the Jharkhand Advocate Welfare Fund Trustee Committee for the financial year 2024-25 would be released to the said Committee by the next date of hearing". 

The matter is next listed on December 17. 

In an earlier hearing, the high court had called upon the Centre and the State governments to make provisions for extending insurance benefits to the lawyer community in the state. The court had said this after noting that while the lawyers community is helping the people by discharging their duty in dispensation of justice but "they are not being given justice either by the State or by the Union".
