The lawyers community in Jammu is up in arms over the proposed relocation of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court to Raika.
Lawyers from the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu (JKHCBAJ) have resolved to stage a protest in the national capital if their concerns are not addressed. The lawyers argue that shifting the High Court complex would cause severe hardships for both legal professionals and the general public.
In this regard, a press note was issued on Monday by the Young Lawyers Association (YLA), Jammu, stating that the existing Janipur location provides ample space for expanding the Court premises, rendering the shift to Raika unnecessary.
Authorities said relocating the HC building to Raika would improve infrastructure and accessibility. However, the lawyers said Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha had guaranteed not to shift and displace existing Court premises.
Lawyers firmly believe that expanding the Janipur location would suffice to meet the growing demands of the judicial system. They said a new complex at the current site would accommodate additional institutions such as the Special Tribunal, Armed Forces Tribunal, Consumers Commission, and other statutory tribunals.
