In response to the catastrophic natural calamity that recently struck Himachal Pradesh, the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has asked the Judicial Officers of the UT’s of J&K and Ladakh to contribute or donate voluntarily towards the relief operations in the calamity struck state.

In an official announcement made on August 24, 2023, the court has initiated a donation drive to support the relief efforts in Himachal Pradesh owing to the disaster that has led to widespread devastation with a call for contributions from various quarters to aid the recovery and rehabilitation process.

In an order issued by the Registrar General's office in Srinagar, the following instructions have been detailed:

  • District Judges' Contribution: All District Judges across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh have been directed to contribute Rs. 7000 each towards the relief fund established by the Himachal Pradesh Government.
  • Civil Judges' Contribution: Civil Judges of both Senior and Junior Divisions are expected to contribute Rs. 5000 each towards the aforementioned relief fund.
  • Gazetted Officers' Contribution: Gazetted Officers from the High Court and the District Judiciary are required to donate Rs. 3000 each for the relief efforts.
  • Non-Gazetted Officials' Contribution: Non-Gazetted Officials working within the High Court and District Judiciary are urged to contribute Rs. 1000 each.
  • Contributions Collection and Deposition: The contributions will be collected by the respective Registrar Judicial of both wings of the High Court and the Principal District and Sessions Judges from the UTs of J&K and Ladakh. The collected funds will be deposited into Account No. CD-0480010100000017 at JK Bank, High Court Complex, Srinagar.

Through the medium of the notification, the members of the High Court Bar Association and the District Bar Associations have also been encouraged to voluntarily contribute directly to the relief fund initiated by the Himachal Pradesh Government.

The notification further reads that upon accumulation of the contributed funds, the Registrar General will issue a consolidated cheque encompassing the entire amount, destined to aid the Himachal Pradesh Government's relief efforts and all the contributions are required to be made within 10 days from the date of the order.
