The Central Govt has notified the appointment of Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for a fresh term of one year.

A notification issued to this effect reads,

“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Additional Judge of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, to be an Additional Judge of that High Court for one year with effect from 3-06-2024,”

This notification came as a consequence to the Supreme Court Collegium resolution issued on April 24th in terms of which it had recommended the extension of the term of Justice Nargal as additional judge for a year.

Prior to the resolution the Collegium of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh had made a recommendation for appointment of Justice Nargal as an Additional Judge for a fresh term, as no vacancy of Permanent Judge was available.

Subsequently, the Collegium after a thorough assessment in accordance with the Memorandum of Procedure, reaffirmed Justice Nargal's merit and suitability for the position.
