The Central Govt has notified the appointment of Justice Rajesh Sekhri as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for a fresh term of one year.
A post to this effect was made by Law Minister Arjun Singh Meghwal on X (previously twitter)
Earlier on 23 April 2024, the Collegium of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh had made a recommendation for the appointment of Justice Sekhri as an Additional Judge for a fresh term, as no vacancy for a Permanent Judge was available.
Subsequently, the Collegium after a thorough assessment in accordance with the Memorandum of Procedure, reaffirmed Justice Sekhri's merit and suitability for the esteemed position.
“A Committee of two judges of the Supreme Court constituted by the Chief Justice of India in terms of the Resolution dated 26 October 2017 of the Supreme Court Collegium assessed the judgments of Mr Justice Rajesh Sekhri. The Committee has reported that the judgments authored by him are well-reasoned, contain an analysis of the facts of the cases and are backed by appropriate case laws”, the resolution had recorded.
In view of these credentials, the Collegium resolved to recommend that Mr Justice Sekhri, Additional Judge, to be appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for a fresh term of one year with effect from 29 July 2024.
In light of the resolution, the government notified Justice Sekhri's appointment for a fresh term.
