The Central Government on Saturday notified the appointment of Justice Robin Phukan, Addl. Judge of the Gauhati High Court as a Permanent Judge of the High Court. A notification issued in this regard states thus:
"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Robin Phukan, Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court, to be a Judge of the Gauhati High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."
The Supreme Court Collegium (SCC) comprising CJI Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice K. M. Joseph earlier this month recommended the name of Justice Robin Phukan, Additional Judge, for appointment as a permanent judge of the Gauhati High Court.
On March 23, 2023, the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in consultation with two senior-most Judges had recommended the name of Justice Robin Phukan, for appointment as a permanent Judge. The Chief Ministers of the States of Assam, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh and the Governors of the States of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh also concurred with the recommendation.
