The Gauhati High Court recently (January 28) constituted a Committee to monitor the implementation of the directions issued by the Supreme Court in Rajeeb Kalita v. Union of India & Ors, for the construction of toilet facilities especially for women, specially-abled persons and transgender persons in Court premises and tribunals across the country.
The Supreme Court had directed that a committee shall be constituted in each of the High Courts under the chairmanship of a Judge nominated by the Chief Justice and members comprising the Registrar General/Registrar of the High Court, the Chief Secretary, the PWD Secretary and the Finance Secretary of the State, a representative of the Bar Association and any other officers as they deem it fit, within a period of six weeks.
The composition of the Committee constituted by the Gauhati High Court is as follows:
Chairman- Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak
Secretary- Registrar (Administration) assisted by the Joint Registrar (PM&P)
Members:
- Registrar General
- Chief Secretary (of the States of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh as and when matters related to the concerned State are involved the concerned stakeholders of the States will be participants)
- Finance Secretary (of the States of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh as and when matters related to the concerned State are involved the concerned stakeholders of the States will be participants)
- PWD Secretary (of the States of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh as and when matters related to the concerned State are involved the concerned stakeholders of the States will be participants)
- President/Secretary, Bar Association (of the Principal Seat, Kohima Bench, Aizawl Bench, Itanagar Permanent Bench and the District Bar Associations as and when matters related to the concerned State/District are involved the concerned stakeholders of the States will be the participants)
The Registrars of the Kohima Bench, Aizawl Bench and Itanagar Permanent Bench and other concerned stake holders of the States will be participants, as and when required.
