The Union Government on Monday informed the Delhi High Court that an Indian woman, resident of Uttar Pradesh, who was on death row in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for alleged murder of a four month old child, was executed on February 15.

The woman was awarded death sentence on July 31, 2023 and the same was upheld by the Court of second instance. She was languishing in Al Wathaba Central Jail.

ASG Chetan Sharma informed Justice Sachin Datta that the woman was executed on February 15 and that her last rites will be held on March 05.

Sharma also informed Court that arrangements were being made to enable the woman's family members to travel to Abu Dhabi to perform her last rites.

“Very unfortunate,” the Court remarked orally after hearing the said development.

The Court disposed of a plea moved by the woman's father seeking a direction on the authorities to inform him about the exact current legal position and well-being of his daughter.

As per the plea, in 2022, the woman had obtained a visa and traveled to Abu Dhabi. She was employed as a caregiver by a woman in Abu Dhabi who had given birth to a boy.

After the infant passed away, a purported video recording was obtained in which the woman was alleged to have confessed to the infant's homicide.

The appellate court had dismissed the woman's appeal and upheld her death penalty on 28 February, 2024.

The plea stated that on 14 February, the Petitioner received a telephonic communication from his daughter, who reported an intra-facility transfer and imminent execution, suggesting that communication is the last communication of her life.

Thereafter, the Petitioner filed a formal request with the Union Ministry of External Affairs seeking an inquiry into his daughter's legal status and wellbeing.

However, since no reply was received, the petition was filed to know her well being.
