Judicial work has been withdrawn from Delhi High Court judge, Justice Yashwant Varma with immediate effect in view of the controversy of alleged discovery of unaccounted currencies at the outhouse in his residential premises.
A notice to this effect has been published on the official website of the Delhi High Court.
“In view of recent events, the judicial work from Hon'ble Mr. Justice Yashwant Varma is withdrawn with immediate effect, till further orders,” the circular reads.
This is after the Supreme Court asked the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court not to assign any judicial work to Justice Yashwant Varma.
The Chief Justice of India has constituted a 3-member committee to conduct an inquiry into the allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma, as part of the in-house procedure.
The members of the Committee are - Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court; Justice GS Sandhawalia, Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh; and Justice Anu Sivaraman, Judge of the High Court of Karnataka.
Justice Varma has denied all the allegations in his response given to Delhi High Court Chief Justice, Justice DK Upadhyaya. He has said that there was a conspiracy to frame him.
Justice Varma denied the allegations including that the room where the fire broke was a room in his official residence. As per his response, it is a storeroom that is disconnected from the main residence contrary to what is projected by TOI's report. He has also unequivocally denied any cash ever being placed in the storeroom.
