Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi informed the Delhi High Court on Wednesday that she has been granted political clearance by the Union Government for her visit to Brisbane to attend a conference.

The mayor had moved the High Court yesterday challenging the denial of clearance. Oberoi's counsel had mentioned the matter before the Chief Justice's bench and had sought an urgent listing of the matter. Accordingly, it was listed before a single bench today.

Noting that the grievance no longer survives, Justice Subramonium Prasad disposed of the plea upon being informed of the clearance.

Oberoi had sought permission to attend the 2023 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor's Forum in Brisbane. The event is scheduled to take place between October 11 and 13.

Advocate Gautam Narayan appeared for Oberoi. Standing Counsel Kirtiman Singh appeared for Centre.

A similar incident had occurred last month when Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai moved challenging the denial of political clearance to him for travelling to New York to attend the Columbia-India Energy Dialogue. This matter was closed after the Union Government told the court that the political clearance was granted.
