The Delhi High Court has recently refused to entertain a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking removal of videos of women and minor girls uploaded on YouTube without their consent.

The PIL was withdrawn as the division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan expressed disinclination to entertain the plea.

The plea, moved by three individuals, also sought action against vloggers for uploading unauthorised videos of women and minor girls and to permanently blocking their accounts.

The counsel appearing for the petitioners said that the PIL was being withdrawn but sought liberty to file appropriate proceedings in accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

“With the aforesaid liberty, the present writ petition is disposed of,” the bench, also comprising of Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, said.

The court, however, clarified that the rights and contentions of all the parties are left open.
