The Delhi High Court on Monday refused to postpone the Chartered Accountants (CA) inter and final exams 2024 which are scheduled to be held in May.
Justice C Hari Shankar dismissed the plea moved by 27 candidates seeking postponement of exams from May to June in view of the Lok Sabha elections.
The court said that the mere fact that the candidates may face hardship in undertaking the exam cannot be grounds to derail the exam which is to be taken by approximately 4.26,000 aspirants.
“This court is surprised that such a request has been made,” the court said.
It added that the general elections are to be held on May 07 and 13 and there is no exam scheduled for 6th and 12th May.
The court said that the authorities have been proactive to ensure that the casting of votes of the candidates is not affected by the exams.
It added that it is on the candidates to balance their schedule and itinerary in case they wish to cast their vote.
“For all the aforesaid reason, it is clear on the face of it that the petition is bereft of substance,” the court said while rejecting the plea.
The counsel appearing for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) submitted that rescheduling the exam in the second week of June would throw the exams into disarray.
He also stated that due care has been taken to ensure that no exams are scheduled on the date when the polls are scheduled.
