The Delhi High Court on Friday launched two projects namely “Digital Courts for Contested Traffic Challans” and “Bail Orders Sharing Module on e-Prison platform.”

The projects were launched virtually by the Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud, who appreciated the High Court as well as everyone involved in the launch of the initiatives in incorporating technology in judicial functioning.

The projects have been launched by Information Technology Committee of Delhi High Court which is headed by Justice Rajiv Shakdher as the Chairman. Other members are Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Justice Sanjeev Narula, Justice Talwant Singh and Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav.

As part of the initiative, the digital traffic courts will adjudicate the challans contested on virtual court and conduct the proceedings online, including recording of evidence and hearing of arguments.

The process will be done as per the eFiling Rules of Delhi High Court, 2021 and Delhi High Court Rules for Video Conferencing for Courts, 2021.

In the digital courts, the alleged violators can appear through video conferencing, who, if convicted, can pay the fine online on https://pay.ecourts.gov.in.

At present, two such digital traffic courts have been setup in East and North-East districts and Karkardooma Courts. It is proposed that one digital traffic court is set up in each District Court of Delhi.

The other initiative of bail orders sharing module on e-Prison platform is for providing a platform to the Delhi High Court and District Courts to share digitally signed bail orders to inmates or undertrials lodged in any jail throughout the country. A list of cases where the prisoner is not released despite grant of bail will also be generated.

The initiative has been developed by NIC-ICJS division in consultation with the Delhi High Court, Delhi State Legal Services Authority and Delhi Prison.
