Delhi Judicial Service Mains Examination 2023 Shall Be Conducted On April 13, 14: High Court

The Delhi High Court has ordered that the Delhi Judicial Service Mains Examination (Written) 2023 shall be held on April 13-14.

A division bench comprising of Justice Rajiv Shakdher and Justice Amit Bansal directed its Registrar General to shift the date of examination by about 12 days. The examination was earlier to be held on March 30-31.

“It is ordered accordingly. Since we are told that examinations are usually held on the second Saturday and the succeeding Sunday of the month, the subject examination will be conducted on 13.04.2024 and 14.04.2024,” the court directed.

The order came in a plea moved by a candidate, Shambhavi Sharma.

Senior Advocate Mohit Mathur appearing for Sharma submitted that since her name was included in the list of successful candidates only on March 21, the date fixed for holding the examination should be shifted to enable her and other candidates similarly circumstanced to prepare for the exam.

On the other hand, Advocate Padam Priya appearing for the Registrar General said that the exercise of conducting the examination has to be concluded by August 05 as per the Supreme Court directions in Malik Mazhar Sultan & Anr v. Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission and Others (2008) 17 SCC 703.

While disposing of the plea, the court ordered:

“Thus, having regard to the concerns expressed on behalf of the petitioner and the candidates similarly circumstanced, as also the urgency expressed by the respondent, we are inclined to direct the respondent to shift the date of examination by about 12 days.”
