On Monday, Justice Indra Prasanna Mukherji bid farewell to the Calcutta High Court. Justice Mukherji who was elevated to the bench on 18th May 2009, was recently transferred as Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
Justice Mukherji, who is a third-generation lawyer, enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and continued his practice till his elevation nineteen years later.
In his farewell speech, Justice Mukherji expressed his gratitude to Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam, as well as all those who supported him in his journey at the High Court.
He remembered his younger days and expressed his appreciation for the assistance rendered by the advocates of the court.
Justice Mukherji further expressed that his promotion as chief justice of the Meghalaya High Court would possibly open the doors for other judges to be promoted, and transferred from/to Calcutta High Court.
"I think my move (as Chief Justice) will open the bottleneck for promotion and transfer of my junior colleagues, and also enable judges to be brought back to the High Court, who had been transferred away. This, I think, will bring about much-expected change to the Calcutta High Court" the judge said.
