The Calcutta High Court today held an obituary reference in memory of Justice MHS Ansari, former judge of the Calcutta High Court and the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Justice Ansari passed away at the age of 90, on the 3rd of December 2023.
He was born on 20th March 1943, obtained his law degree from Osmania University in 1965, and enrolled as an advocate in January 1966.
In 1995 Justice Ansari was elevated as a Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh and was transferred as Judge of Calcutta High Court in 1997.
He was thereafter transferred back to the Andhra Pradesh High Court and continued there till his superannuation in 2005.
Justice Ansari practised in Civil Appeals, Writs, Taxation and Company Law and specialised in Civil and Taxation Matters.
The ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam who said:
"His sad demise has created a void for the entire legal fraternity. Although I did not have occasion to see Justice Ansari as a judge of this court, I am told much about his fine qualities and innate humility. Those who knew him well would always remember him as such, I am informed that his lordship always maintained good relations with his colleagues and members of the Bar. I am informed that his life could be summed up in a few words: Simple, Virtuous, Generous and Affable. Justice Ansari would deliver justice while being sensitive to the rights of ordinary people, and he was very patient in hearing cases. His emphasis on speedy justice would always be remembered."
Further speeches were delivered by the Assistant Additional Advocate General, and the office bearers of the Three Wings of the Bar.
