Justice Chowdhury is due to retire on the 27th of December 2023.

He spent over thirty years as a judicial officer and was elevated as an additional judge of the Calcutta High Court on 6th June 2022 and made a permanent judge on 28th November 2023.

At his farewell ceremony, Justice Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury said:

"I have spent over three decades in judicial service. I tried my best, and whatever I could deliver was because of your active support, thank you all for being with me during my journey in the High Court. I must acknowledge the support received from young members of the Bar. I found them bundled with energy, ready to assist the court in disposing of old criminal matters as amicus. There was no hesitation on their part and they always happily extended their cooperation, I am really grateful to them because of their assistance, and the assurance that they give to carry the traditions of this court forward and to uphold the dignity of the institution. I acknowledge the support received from all my support staff, who helped me a lot in discharging my duty. I wish you all prosperity and good in life, wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance."

Further speeches were delivered by the Senior Standing Counsel for the State and the office bearers of the High Court Bar Association, Incorporated Law Society and Bar Library Club.
