On Monday, Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam along with Justices Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya, Bivas Pattanayak and Law Minister of West Bengal, Moloy Ghatak virtually inaugurated the Civil Judge (Senior Division) 2nd Court at Uluberia, Howrah.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Justice emphasised the rich history of the Uluberia subdivision and reminded colleagues in the district judiciary of the importance of keeping court complexes clean. He said:
"The Uluberia subdivision was established in 1882, from then it has been catering to the needs of the public. The long-standing demand of the bar for the establishment of a second court has come true today. With the sanction of adequate funds, the once-dilapidated building has been refurbished by the PWD.
The establishment of a new court comes with responsibilities for the bar as well as the bench. I have an appeal to members of the bar and their clerks. My request is to keep the court premises clean and encroachment-free. The common areas and corridors are meant for free ingress and egress and should not be encroached. A clean court premises is a welcome change when you come to work and gives a good impression to the litigant public, he added.
The Chief Justice also hinted at the creation of a rolling-trophy for the cleanest court complex in the State, which would be awarded once a year.
'Let us see the competition between the Courts. This is possible only with the fullest cooperation of the members of the bar,' he stated.
With the addition of this Court, there would be nine courts under the Uluberia subdivision.
