Seven Additional Judges Of Bombay High Court Made Permanent; Fresh One-Year Term For Two Additional Judges

The Central government on Friday notified the appointment of seven additional judges of the Bombay High Court as permanent judges.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal made the announcement on X, formerly Twitter.

Notably, two other additional judges have been granted a fresh term of one year as additional judges, effective from October 7.

The judges appointed as permanent judges are Justices SG Chapalgaonkar, MM Sathaye, Neela Kedar Gokhale, YG Khobragade, MW Chandwani, AS Waghwase, and RM Joshi.

Justices Sanjay Aanandrao Deshmukh and Vrushali Vijay Joshi have been recommended for a fresh term of one year as additional judges.

Justices Chapalgaonkar was Elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay on 30th November, 2022, whereas, justice MM Sathaye was Elevated as Addl. Judge of Bombay High Court on 30th November, 2022.

Justice Gokhale has argued many important cases over three decades, focusing on issues like voting rights for armed personnel, equal rights for women, and guidelines on media trials. She was elevated to Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on January 30, 2023.

Justice Khobragade started as a District and Sessions Judge in 2008 at the City Civil Court, Greater Bombay. He has worked in various districts, including Chandrapur and Nagpur, and became Principal District and Sessions Judge in 2017. On October 7, 2022, he was sworn in as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court.

Justice Waghwase became a District Judge in 2008 and a Principal District Judge in 2017. He was elevated to Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on October 7, 2022, while serving as Chief Judge of the Small Cause Court in Mumbai.

Justice Joshi joined as a District Judge in Pune on June 8, 2008, and served in various districts like Dhule, Nashik, Thane, and Amravati. He was elevated to Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on October 7, 2022

Justice Deshmukh became a District Judge directly from the Bar in 2008 and served in various positions, including Special Judge at the City Civil Court in Bombay and Principal District and Sessions Judge in Pune. He was elevated to Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on October 7, 2022.

Justice Joshi was selected as a District Judge directly from the Bar in 2008 and served as Sessions Judge at the 'First Women's Special Court' in Pune. She became Principal District Judge in Latur in 2017 and Chief Judge at the City Civil Court in Bombay in 2022. She was elevated to Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on October 7, 2022.
