A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court concerning the usage of laser beams and loud sound systems during religious processions and other ceremonies.
The petitioner, Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat, argued that the hazardous laser beams used in festivals have resulted in loss of eyesight in several individuals. Further that the noise pollution due to DJ systems and similar activities has led to hearing loss in many individuals.
It was also argued that the noise pollution has caused vibrations in the nearby buildings.
The petitioner claimed that it has made several complaints and representations to the respondent-authorities.
The petitioner stated that there are no specific regulations to address the dangers caused by laser beams and thus sought the Court's interference to issue appropriate directions to the respondent-State.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar heard the matter and asked the respondent-State to file its reply.
