The Supreme Court Collegium consisting of Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, have recommended Additional Judge Justice Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury as permanent Judge of the Calcutta High Court.

On 5 April 2023, the Chief Justice of the High Court at Calcutta had recommended Justice Chowdhury in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues. The Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of West Bengal had then concurred with the said recommendation. 

"Having considered all aspects of the matter and on an overall consideration of the above proposal, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Shri Justice Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury who is due to demit office on superannuation on 27 December 2023, be appointed as a permanent Judge of the High Court at Calcutta"  the Collegium Resolution states.
