The Gujarat High Court, on Friday, turned down a Petition demanding that the games of Poker and Rummy be permitted at a city club.

The Court was hearing Petitions reportedly contending that since Poker is a game of skill and not chance, it does not amount to gambling.

One of the Petitioners, Mr. Samir Patel had, therefore, sought a direction to the police authorities and the Department of Sports and Culture to issue a 'no objection certificate' (NOC) or a license  enabling him to run a Poker room in his club.

Justice J.B. Pardiwala, however, dismissed the Petition at the admission stage, with the order noting, "No case worth the name is made out".
