The 2nd National Lawyers' Parliament Festival, organized by Lawyers for Justice & Rajdhani Yuva Sansad at the India International Centre Lodhi Road, witnessed participation from over 300 legal professionals from across the country, who engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the New Criminal Law Codes of 2023.
The parliamentary discussion was graced by the Union Minister of Law and Justice, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, as the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony. Where he stressed for reform in the Indian Legal System and highlighted the evolution of Indian laws, emphasizing their role in society from historic events like the Battle of Plassey and the 1857 Revolt. He noted the shift from punitive old laws to reformative new ones, citing recent changes in criminal laws as steps toward a more inclusive and progressive legal system.
The gathering was attended by Justice Chandra Dhari Singh and Justice Vikas Mahajan from the Delhi High Court, Vijay Kumar Singh, Vice Chairperson, DDA. The event began with Adv. Piyush Gupta highlighting the importance of youth involvement in legal and policy discussions. Adv. Jai Saini and Adv. Isha Kapoor sparked a conversation on the new legal codes.
The Valedictory Ceremony was presided over by Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri, Judge, Delhi High Court as the Chief Guest. The award ceremony also saw the presence of Adv.Chetan Sharma, Additional Solicitor General of India, Ms. Aman Preet Passy, IRS officer & Sr. Adv. K.K. Manan, Former Chairman, Bar Council of Delhi and Prof. (Dr.) Seema Singh and Prof. (Dr.) Upma Gautam. The conference, thus, saw attendees from the legal, political, entrepreneurial, and academic sector. This insightful conference led to the emergence of various suggestions to supplant the new criminal law codes and has set a high benchmark for involvement of the legal fraternity in the policy making arena.
