National Green Tribunal: National Conference On Environment 2025 At Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi [29th March]

Two days National Conference Environment- 2025 is going to be held by National Green Tribunal on 29th & 30th 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

The two days conference will feature four technical sessions, providing a platform for experts, judicial officers, administrative officers, and other stakeholders to discuss critical issues related to environment and showcase the nation's efforts in environmental conservation.

 The President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, will be the Chief Guest of Inaugural Session of the National Conference at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

 The inaugural session will also be attended by Mr. Bhupender Yadav, minister of environment, forest and climate change; Justice Vikram Nath, Judge ,Supreme Court of India; R.Venkataramani, Attorney General of India & Justice Prakash Srivastava, Chairperson, National Green Tribunal.

The Technical Sessions are:-

Technical Session I : - The topic of this session is Air Quality Monitoring & Management in reference to rising air pollution particularly in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata. etc. and its impact on public health, climate, and quality of life. The key aspects include causes (vehicles, industrial emissions, stubble burning), government policies, and potential solutions like stricter regulations, green technologies, and awareness campaigns. The session will be chaired by Justice Joymalya Bagchi, Judge, Supreme Court of India

Technical Session II :- The topic of this session is Water Quality Management & River Rejuvenation which will focus on the increasing water scarcity issues in many parts of India, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, and the over extraction of groundwater, examining the growing water scarcity issue in India, the challenges of water pollution and mismanagement. The key aspect includes causes (overuse, contamination, climate change), government initiatives (e.g., Jal Jeevan Mission), and community-based water conservation efforts and measures to conserve and restore, rivers, wetlands, ground water oceans. The session will be chaired by  Justice Pratibha M. Singh Judge, High Court of Delhi

Technical Session III: - The session will focus on Forest and Biodiversity. The objective is to identify challenges and gaps and to propose solutions conservation of forests and the biodiversity. The focus is to deliberate upon the burning issue of deforestation and extinction of various species. The proposed outcome is restoring forests that have been degraded by replanting trees that have been cut down. Forests restoration measures can help increase biodiversity and provide habitant for a variety of species. The session will be chaired by Justice Anand Pathak, Judge, High Court of Madhya Pradesh.

Technical Session IV: - The session will focus on reflections and key take aways. Here the stakeholder departments will have an opportunity to share the best practices, to comprehend the de- liberation that took place in the previous technical sessions, setting the goals and preparing a road map to achieve the same. The session will be chaired by Justice P. S. Narsimha, Judge, and Supreme Court of India.

The Vice President of India Sh.Jagdeep Dhankhar will address the Valedictory Session. The Valedictory session will also be attended by Justice PS Narasimha, Judge Supreme Court of India & Mr. Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India. NGT proposes to release its Souvenir book named “Voice of Nature” of National Green Tribunal in the National Conference. The NGT will also release its e- Journal named NGTeJ-2024 comprising of Judgments of NGT.
