The High Court of Orissa recently organized the 1st All India Judges' Badminton Championship on the 4th and 5th of January 2025. The event brought together members of the judiciary, with judges from six different High Courts across India participating. The championship aimed to foster camaraderie, promote physical fitness, and create an engaging platform for interaction among judicial officers outside their professional environment.
The event was inaugurated by Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa, who emphasized the importance of such initiatives in building a healthy balance between the rigorous demands of the judiciary and personal well-being.
Hosted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, the championship featured a range of exciting matches in two categories: singles and doubles. The singles matches followed a knockout format, where participants competed fiercely to secure their positions, while the doubles matches adopted a round-robin format, ensuring an equitable opportunity for all teams to showcase their skills.
Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas, Judge, Kerala High Court was the Singles Winner.
In the Doubles category, Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan, Judge, Kerala High Court and Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas secured the title together.
