India has been nominated as the upcoming Secretariat of the Asian Mediation Association (AMA) during the AGM of AMA held at Manila, Philippines on 14th October 2024. Mr. Anil Xavier, the President of the Indian Institute of Arbitration & Mediation (IIAM) was elected to serve as the Chairman of AMA for the period 2025-2027.

At the 6th AMA Conference and AGM held in the Philippines on the 16th October 2024, the symbolic transfer of the Secretariat was conducted by the current AMA Chairperson, Raul B. Villanueva, Court Administrator of the Philippines Supreme Court together with the AMA Secretariat members from the Philippines to the incoming Chairperson, Mr. Anil Xavier along with the Indian delegates, Ms. Iram Majid, Director of the Indian Institute of Arbitration & Mediation, Mr. Kanwal Jeet Arora, Registrar General of the Delhi High Court, Mr. Sanjay Garg, Judge In-Charge of the Delhi Mediation Centre and Mr. Pawan Kumar Jain, Registrar (Vigilance), Delhi High Court.

The program was distinguished by the presence of Alexander G. Gesmundo, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Philippines, Gibuma Gibbs Salika, Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea, Justice P.S. Narasimha, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Louise Araneta Marcos, First Lady of the Republic of the Philippines, Rosmari D. Carandang, Chancellor, Philippine Judicial Academy and Maria Laarni Cayetano, Mayor, Taguig City, Manila.

India is becoming the Secretariat of AMA for the first time. The first AMA Secretariat was held by Singapore, which was followed by Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Philippines.

The Asian Mediation Association (AMA) represents the unprecedented grouping of mediation establishments in Asia, combining the resources of a diverse blend of Asian cultures. It was founded on 17 August 2007.

The AMA members include premier institutions from 11 countries. These include the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT)/China Chamber of International Commerce (CCIC) in China, the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) in Singapore, the Malaysian International Mediation Centre (MIMC) in Malaysia, the Hong Kong Mediation Centre (HKMC) in Hong Kong, the Indonesian Mediation Center (PMN) in Indonesia, the Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation (IIAM) in India, the Delhi Mediation Centre (DMC) in India, the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC) in Thailand, the Thai Mediation Center (TMC) (Office of the Judicial Affairs) in Thailand, the Philippine Mediation Centre (PMC) (Office of the Court Administrator) in Philippines, the Mediation Service, Ministry of Employment Productivity and Industrial Relations in Republic of Fiji, the Commercial Dispute Mediation Center at the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mongolia and the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA) in Japan.

Collectively, AMA members provide the infrastructure for conflict management and dispute resolution for disputes in Asia or with businesses in Asia. AMA members provide access to a wide range of dispute resolution and conflict management services across a multitude of jurisdictions.

The 6th AMA Conference was held by the Supreme Court of Philippines through the Office of the Court Administrator and in association with the Philippines Judicial Academy on the 15th and 16th of October, 2024 at the Shangri-La The Fort at Taguig City, Philippines. The conference with the theme, “Harmony and Strategic innovations in Mediation and ADR” was attended by over 700 delegates from more than 22 countries. The 7th AMA Conference is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India, in March 2026 under the auspices of the Indian AMA Secretariat.
