In the wake of a complaint regarding diseases caused by generation and accumulation of a huge amount of fly ash the NGT has sought reports on the present status of fly ash management from several authorities.

The Bench comprising of Chairperson Justice A.K Goel, member S.P Wangdi, member K. Ramakrishnan and expert member Dr. Nagin Nanda, was considering a report submitted by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HPSCB) showing huge amount of accumulated fly ash in Jhajjar district at the units of NTPC Aravali Power and Jhajjar Power. The report was conducted following a previous NGT order in December, 2018 in the wake of a complaint alleging that inhabitants of the area were suffering from diseases due to fly ash accumulation.

Following the findings of the report, the NGT sought reports from NTPC Aravali Power and Jhajjar Power about their current status of fly ash disposal and management and an action plan with a timeline.

A report was also sought from Chief Medical Officer in Jhajjar District about the health impact study of fly ash in the concerned area.

The NGT further directed HSPCB to submit a report on the status of air quality and stack monitoring with regards to the two power plants.

All reports were sought within one month.
