The principal bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought action taken reports from the Member Secretary of DPCC, SDM Karol Bagh, and DCP Central, Karol Bagh, on alleged noise pollution caused by several banquet halls in Delhi.

Observing that the Tribunal had earlier directed the filing of an action taken report on the issue, the bench of CP, Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Justice Sudhir Agarwal, and Dr. A. SenthilVel said, 'The Action Taken Report has not been substantiated with data on noise levels monitored and notices issued to Barat Ghars in question and others.

The bench added that a perusal of the report submitted earlier on the issue reveals that the directions issued by the Tribunal have not been complied with by the competent authorities in the true letter and spirit, and “only paper compliances have been done.”

These observations came in response to the application raising grievances regarding noise pollution caused by activities in several banquet halls in Delhi, including Ajmal Khan Park at East Park Road, Karol Bagh, Raj Tents and Decorators, Raj Vatika Banquet Hall, and Golden Moments Banquet Halls.

The Tribunal noted that the plea was earlier disposed of with the directions that grievance can be looked into and based on verification of facts, remedial action can be taken in accordance with the Hardeep Singh & Ors. v. SDMC & Ors. by the concerned authorities.

However, the directions were not compiled by the competent authorities.

Consequently, NGT directed, “we call for Action Taken Reports from Member Secretary, DPCC, SDM Karol Bagh, and DCP Central, Karol Bagh, New Delhi in respect of the grievance noted in the order dated 10.03.2023. The said report be submitted within 8 weeks…”

The matter is now listed for December 06, for further consideration.
