The co-ordination committee of the All-District Court Bar Associations of Delhi has called for a complete strike in all six district courts of Delhi on Friday i.e., June 8 in protest against a deadly attack on the family of Shahdara Bar Association president Pramod Nagar, which, the association said, throws light on the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital.

The association “expressed profound concern over deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi and has resolved to call for a complete abstention from work in all the district courts of Delhi on Friday, June 8 demanding speedy and appropriate action against the culprits who meted out a deadly attack and shootout on the family members of Pramod Nagar, president, Shahdara Bar Association”, stated a circular issued on Thursday.

Association secretary-general Dhir Singh Kasana narrated how on the night of May 28, some 40-50 miscreants attacked the residence of advocate Pramod Nagar at Bhajanpura in north-east Delhi with weapons, including pistols, lathis etc.

They openly fired at his house only because Nagar’s son had allegedly objected to some of the members of the gang partying and consuming liquor in the car. The men in the car returned with about 40-50 persons armed with iron rods, pistols and lathis, and attacked Nagar’s residence while also openly firing at the house as Nagar and his family were locked inside.

“Though the police registered an FIR immediately, they have yet to arrest any of the accused involved in the crime. We met the DCP concerned and also the Special Commissioner (Law and Order) and were assured of speedy action but till date, nothing has been done,” Kasana said while speaking to Livelaw.

Kasana said, “The main accused had his anticipatory bail listed in Karkardooma court today and the next date in that application if June 12. Is it not strange that the accused has anticipatory bail listed in the court but the police are not able to arrest anyone? And the accused are no small fry.”

“All we are worried about is the law and order situation in Delhi. We, as advocates, could approach the senior cops but what about the common man. What about their safety?” he asked, adding, “With the call for a strike, we have now given police 24 hours to act.”
