Delhi Judicial Service Assn Condemns Lawyers’ Strike, Says Judges Suffer In Silence [Read Resolution]

The Delhi Judicial Services Association (DJSA) has condemned the lawyers’ strike in all six district courts of Delhi on Friday over alleged misbehaviour of judicial officers, saying the same is an attempt to overawe and browbeat the judges.

“The baseless allegations of misconduct and corruption are condemnable. We unanimously resolve that judges remain and easy target for those who wish to asperse the reputation of the judge out of grudge or disgruntled from the court order,” the DJSA said.

It said legitimate criticism of judges arising from the discharge of the duty is permissible as being the exercise of the freedom of expression but “what are not permissible are unjustified and unreasonable attacks on judicial integrity that strike at the root of the Judiciary’s Constitutional role”.

“Judges suffer in silence unlike other public figures. Judges have no forum in which they reply to criticism and remain easy target of those wishing to gain cheap publicity. It is the statutory obligation of bar association to respect the judicial order of the court to maintain high standards of professional conduct,” it said in a resolution.

A copy has been sent to Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal.

It is to be noted that the lawyers of all district courts in Delhi had struck work for the day to protest against the “misbehaviour” of some judges and the increasing corruption in judiciary.
