Delhi High Court dismisses PIL to bring back Netaji’s ashes and declare his birthday as “Freedom Fighter’s Day”

A Delhi High Court bench comprising of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice P.S. Teji dismissed a Public Interest Litigation filed by a social worker, Mr. Sharad Tiwari seeking to bring back the ashes of Late Subhash Chandra Bose and to keep it in a public place “for paying tributes to the late leaders for the sacrifices made by him in the freedom struggle of the nation.”
He also prayed that the ashes be brought to India “for submerging the same into holy river Ganga and also to the top of the Himalayas as in case of other national leaders for whom it has been done like Pandit Nehru, Mrs. Indira Gandhi etc.”
Further, the petition prayed that Panditji’s birthday, 23rd of January be declared as “Freedom Fighter’s Day”.
The Bench dismissed the petition observing that absolutely no material was produced by the petitioner to establish the plea that the ashes of Late Subhash Chandra Bose are lying in the Museum in Germany.
Dismissing the petition, the Bench observed, “At any rate, we find that the petition is frivolous and the cause sought to the espoused is misconceived.”
