The Delhi High Court on Friday took suo motu cognizance of the report about the DDA demolishing a hostel for visually-impaired students in west Delhi leaving them out in cold and ordered their immediate rehabilitation.
A bench of acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar took cognizance of the matter and issued notice to LG, the Delhi government, DDA, DUSIB and also the Centre (Ministry of Social Welfare) seeking a report in the matter.
The court also ordered DDA to immediately rehabilitate the visually impaired residents.
Advocate Mishra has been appointed an amicus in the matter which is now listed for January 16.
The matter concerns the DDA demolishing the hostel ‘Louis Welfare Progresssive Association of the Blind’ in Janakpuri’s Virender Nagar.
About 20 students of Delhi University stay in this hostel.
The DDA razed the hostel as part of its drive against encroachment.
Advocate Mishra said the court took suo motu cognizance of the issue and has called for a report.
