The Delhi High Court on Friday took serious view of industries operating in non-profit conforming or residential areas despite the government developing industrial area at Narela- Bawana.

A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal directes the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to look into the situation.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Bawana Factory Welfare Association highlighting how industrial plots allotted to the industries in industrial areas remain unused while factories continue to be operated from non-profit conforming areas.

"the petitioner has filed extensive photographs of the situation which obtains at Narela-Bawana Industrial area developed decades ago for relocation of the above industries.  The petitioner’s complaint is that persons who stand allotted the industrial plots continue to operate their industries and business from the non-conforming/residential area.

"The industrial areas with infrastructure have obviously been set up on Government land at huge cost to the public exchequer.  Perhaps the Government would have incurred huge amounts on land acquisition as well," the bench noted.

"NDMC shall conduct a fresh inquiry of the industries and inform this Court zone-wise details of the industrial units within two weeks from today.  The details shall disclose the date of commencement of the industrial activity and date of the sealing of properties," the bench said.

It also directed DSIIDC to furnish details of industries which were allotted land in Narela-Bawana.
