The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly and the Delhi government on the plea of two youth imprisoned on the Speaker’s order for throwing pamphlets and creating ruckus in the Assembly.

The high court also issued production warrants for Jagdeep Rana and Rajan Kumar Madan, who will now be produced before the court on Monday.

A bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Najmi Waziri issued the notices to Ram Niwas Goel and the AAP government and the production warrant on a plea by Rana and Madan challenging the order of the Speaker sending them to jail for a month.

Following the court’s order, suspended AAP leader and Delhi’s former water minister Kapil Mishra tweeted, “Satyamev Jayte – Delhi High Court issues notices to Speaker and Govt of Delhi”.

The MLA from Karawal Nagar, Mishra, followed it with another tweet saying, “Jagdeep Rana and Madan will be in court on Monday to tell exactly what happened that day in Assembly”.

Earlier, he had likened them to freedom martyr Bhagat Singh and posted that he would request the Speaker to rethink over his decision to send them behind bars.

On June 28, Jagdeep Rana and Madan were sitting in the visitors’ gallery of the House when they hurled pamphlets and raised slogans demanding resignation of Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.

They later claimed to have been thrashed by AAP MLAs.

They had moved the high court saying the Speaker had passed the order without hearing them.

They said the decision of the Speaker was illegal and violative of the principle of natural justice.

On Monday, the Delhi government counsel Rahul Mehra had told the bench that there was no need for the Speaker to grant them any hearing since the incident of "breach of privilege and contempt of the House" occurred in the presence of all legislators.
