The coordination committee of All-District Court Bar Associations of Delhi on Wednesday called off the lawyers' strike as it said it has been assured by the Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice of appropriate action against the judicial officer at whose behest FIR has been lodged against members of the Delhi Bar Association for allegedly manhandling a lady lawyer.

 A three-Judge Bench of Supreme Court on Wednesday restrained the Bar Association of Tis Hazari Court from going on strike or participating in any kind of boycott of any Court in Tis Hazari or any other Court.

 But according to Delhi Bar Association honorary secretary Jaiveer Singh Chauhan;

 "Coordination committee has decided after Assurance given by acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court to take appropriate steps against judicial officer who is instrumental of lodging false FIR against 50 members of the Bar. So on this Assurance coordination committee call of the strike in resume Court work," read a message from the Delhi Bar Association honorary secretary Jaiveer Singh Chauhan.

 Chauhan told Live Law he personally met Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal at 4 pm on Wednesday and was assured of appropriate action in the matter.

The strike has been called off on a day when the Supreme Court restrained the Delhi Bar Association from striking work and provided security to lady lawyer Afshan Pracha who had complained of manhandling by lawyers, including members of the Bar, at the Tis Hazari court complex.

It is to be noted that the strike had been called at the Tis Hazari court after registration of FIR against 50 lawyers, including members of the Bar.

 The lawyers had been booked with intervention of Additional District and Sessions judge Prashant kumar on the complaint of Afshan.

Afshan had complained that she was manhandled and groped by the lawyers on May 4 when she was waiting outside the court of Prashant Kumar for appearing in a bail matter.

On May 4, the Delhi Bar Association had called a strike at Tis Hazari court to protest against the decision of redevelopment of Tis Hazari court and bar on transfer of chambers with only 2,800 chambers being allotted as against the demand of 4,000.
