The Supreme Court, on Friday, directed its Registry to compile all cases concerning admissions to Dental Colleges, opining that "there appears to be a tremendous amount of confusion" regarding the same.
The Bench comprising Justice M.B. Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta noted that while several Special Leave Petitions have been dismissed, there still existed some pending cases in the Court. This, it said, "leads to a great uncertainty with regard to the career of the students and with regard to the management of the institutions dealing with Dental Science."
It then directed, "Under the circumstances, we are of the view that, after obtaining orders of Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India, the Registry will compile all these cases and will list them before a Bench for final disposal preferably in the month of January, 2018 so that there is some finality attached to the case of admission for students in Dental Colleges."
In the meantime, it directed that the students may participate in the exam scheduled for 14 December and that their results would be kept in a sealed cover.
The Court, however, clarified that the result of the examination of the applicants before it will be subject to the outcome of the Petitions.
It explained, "If the judgment and order passed by the High Court is affirmed, then the results will be declared and if the special leave petitions filed by the University are allowed, the results of these students will not be declared."
