Clash Of Titans: Gopal Subramanium To Argue Against Harish Salve At Singapore Court

Former Solicitor General of India and Senior Advocate, Mr. Gopal Subramanium has been granted permission by Singapore High Court to appear on behalf of Daiichi Sankyo, a Japanese Pharmaceutical company, in the proceedings in Singapore.

Mr. Subramanium is expected to focus on the Indian Law issues and assist the Courts in Singapore on Indian Law owing to his immense experience.

Mr. Subramanium has been admitted to represent Daiichi Sankyo after Mr. Harish Salve was allowed to argue the case on behalf of the Singhs who are challenging an arbitration tribunal award granted in April last year.

The Tribunal had ordered the Singhs to pay more than Rs 2,500 crore in damages to Daiichi for allegedly concealing information regarding wrongdoing at Ranbaxy while selling it to the Japanese firm in 2008. The award is now valued at Rs 3,500 crore, including interest and legal fees.

P&A Law Offices, Delhi is representing Daiichi Sankyo in the enforcement proceedings and litigation in India. While the plea for enforcement of the arbitral award was pending, the Japanese drug-maker had also approached the Delhi High Court to bar the Singh brothers from divesting stake in their hospital chain Fortis Healthcare, so that the award can be enforced.

The judgement in these proceedings was reserved by the High Court on 6 September, 2017.
