The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday gave its approval for status-cum-progress report and constitution of a special committee for inter-linking of rivers in compliance with a Supreme Court order dated 27th February, 2012.

The move, which come pursuant to the Supreme Court’s orders, will help in monitoring the ‘precious inter-linking of river projects’ under the National Perspective Plan 1980 of Government of India.

To enable faster and informed decision making, the status-cum-progress report of the special committee for inter-linking of rivers will be submitted bi-annually to Cabinet. This would facilitate ‘faster and appropriate decisions in the interest of the country as expeditiously as possible’.
