The Centre has issued a notification extending the date for linking bank accounts to Aadhaar indefinitely. The earlier deadline was set at 31 December, 2017.

The notification, issued by the Finance Ministry's Revenue Department on Tuesday, states that the new deadline would be notified by the Central government after due consultations.



Earlier last week, Attorney General K.K. Venugopal had told the Supreme Court that the Centre intended to extend the deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar number with bank accounts and various schemes and services from 31 December, 2017, to 31 March, 2018. However, the deadline for linking Aadhaar number with mobile numbers shall continue to be February 6, 2018, he had submitted.
