The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will reportedly be looking into the death of a high court judge’s mother, which was allegedly caused due to negligence of hospital authorities.

As per a Times of India report, in July this year, the 84-year-old woman was rushed to PGI, Chandigarh ’s advanced cardiac centre, where she passed away within a few hours. Her family members had then alleged that the cause of her death was athe absence of senior doctors when she was brought in.

The family had consequently complained to the PGI Director, after which a committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Prof. GD Puri, head of anesthesia department. This committee, however, did not find any negligence in the hospital’s handling of the patient, and found the cause of death to be cardiac arrest.

Dissatisfied with the conclusion arrived at by the committee, her family members had called for examination by an external medical board. A complaint was therefore sent to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

“Consequently, the CBI was asked to investigate the case. All files pertaining to the patient are being scrutinized and the doctors would be questioned soon,” an official at the medical institute was quoted as saying.
