The Supreme Court has asked Registrar General of the Delhi High Court to be personally present before it to answer some queries with regard to case management of original suits filed in Delhi High Court.
During the last hearing, the court was told that amendments are to be carried out in the Delhi High Court Original Side Rules and Practice Directions.
“What is now proposed is framing of a new set of Rules to comprehensively deal with the situation,” a bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi said, while perusing the periodical report submitted by the Registrar General.
“We are confident that the Full Court of the Delhi High Court, as and when the proposed/draft new Rules are placed before it, will consider the matter,” the bench added stating that it would like to concentrate on the provisions contained in Rules (xii) to (xv) and (xix) of the said Draft Rules.
The bench has required Registrar General of the Delhi High Court Dinesh Kumar Sharma to answer the following queries:
- How many Joint Registrars/Commissioners record evidence;
- No. of cases dealt with every day by Joint Registrars and time expended in a day for recording of evidence;
- Is such recording of evidence done on every working day;
- Total no. of Commissioners appointed for recording of evidence; how many cases are dealt with every day;
- Evidence recorded by each of the Joint Registrars/Commissioners in the last seven days be placed before the Court;
- What is the average remuneration paid to the Commissioners for every day’s work;
- What is the position of IPR cases, as on date, (147 in number) pending in the category of final hearing and in how many courts such cases are listed for regular hearing?
The court has also asked the Registrar General of the High Court to be personally present in the court along with his team to answer all such further questions that may be relevant to the issue on January 9.
