Rajan Kumar Madan, who along with Jagdeep Rana has been in Tihar Jail after being jailed by the Delhi Assembly Speaker for Assembly ruckus, has gone on a hunger strike inside the Central Jail.

Madan has been on a hunger strike since Tuesday 4 pm.

Madan's advocate Vibhor Anand, who visited him in Tihar Jail told LiveLaw that Madan has been on hunger strike without water.

"I met him today in Tihar. He is on hunger strike due to non-availability of fresh drinking water in his barracks in jail no. 2," Anand said.

"The inmates are forced to bring water from other barracks, which are far away, and the barrack has 100 inmates," he added.

Last week, the Delhi High Court had issued notices to Speaker Ram Niwas Goel and to the Delhi government on Madan's and Jagdeep's plea challenging the order of the Speaker sending them to jail for a month.

On June 28, Jagdeep Rana and Madan were sitting in the Visitors’ Gallery of the House when they hurled pamphlets and raised slogans demanding resignation of Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.

They later claimed to have been thrashed by AAP MLAs.

They then moved the high court saying the Speaker had passed the order without hearing them.

Jagdeep later challenged the rules granting such power to the Speaker.
