Allahabad HC Dismisses Petition For CBI Probe In Dadri Lynching Case

The High Court of Allahabad on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq in Dadri last year.

The Bench comprising Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Rekha Dikshit dismissed the petition filed by Mr. Sanjay Singh, a BJP worker and the father of one of the accused, alleging that Uttar Pradesh Police was not investigating the matter fairly, neglecting the placing of the report of Forensic Science Lab, Mathura before the lower Court. The lab report, it had claimed, had established that the meat seized from the victim’s house was that of a cow or its progeny. Mr. Singh had further demanded a stay on proceedings in the case pending with the Sessions Court in Gautam Budh Nagar.

Dismissing the Petition, the Court relied on the submissions made by the Additional Advocate General Imran Ullah, who averred that the State Police had already filed a charge-sheet in the matter, and had placed the lab report before the Court.

Mohammad Akhlaq, on September 28, 2015, had become a victim of an angry mob which had barged into his house at Bisara village in Dadri area of Gautam Budh Nagar, and was infuriated over a rumour that his family had slaughtered a cow and consumed its meat.
