The Agami Summit was hosted by Vayam and Humlab on December 5 at the Sheraton, New Delhi, hosting 100 innovators, change-makers and leaders transforming the legal industry and systems of law and justice in India.
Carl Malamud, founder of PublicResource.Org and Faye D'Souza, Executive Editor, Mirror opened the event with their keynotes, addressing entrepreneurs and change-makers from the legal industry and civil society.
“Quality, effectiveness, access and inclusion in the field of law and justice will not be transformed by lawyers, judges and legal academicians alone. It will take innovative and courageous work by people from all fields to make the changes we need for the wellbeing of this nation. That was both the spirit and purpose of the Summit,” a press release stated.
Sharing examples of what judicial intervention and innovation can do, Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Gita Mittal spoke about her experience of setting up vulnerable witness deposition complexes, training children between age 16-18 on nuances of law they may encounter, setting up witness assistance rooms and helping with legal aid desks for undertrials and convicts.
She asserted, “Small interventions that will go a long way in enabling complete justice to whoever engages with or is in conflict with the law”.
The Summit awarded the Agami Prize to the best innovations among 183 applicants in three categories— Industry, Citizenship and Idea Prize. The Industry Prize went to Provakil. The Citizenship Prize went to IndianKanoon. The Idea Prize was given jointly to Civis and Impulse Model Press Lab.
