Petitioner’s counsel Vipin Nair, who is an AOR for two of the petitioners-Shanta Sinha and Kalyani Menon, mentioned before the Bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra as the court had earlier assured to set up the constitution bench before the winter vacation commencing from Dec 18 (Monday).

CJI Misra said “the matter (Aadhar) will be taken up tomorrow. “

The five judge Bench headed by CJI is sitting tomorrow to hear the Parsi married woman identity issue. Apparently, Aadhar matter is  also likely to be heard by the same Bench.

On December 7, the CJI had assured the counsel for the petitioners to constitute the Constitution bench by this week.

During the last mentioning (Dec7) , attorney General KK Venugopal submitted that the Centre intends to extend the deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar number with bank accounts and various schemes and services from December 31, 2017, to March 31, 2018.

However, the deadline for linking Aadhaar number with mobile numbers shall continue to be February 6, 2018. Also, the extension in respect of bank account too shall be made available only to those persons who are not Aadhaar card holders.
