The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in the exercise of its powers under Section 7 of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies) Act 2016, has notified that Aadhaar is necessary as an identity proof for availing of conditional cash assistance under the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP).

The Ministry administers centrally-sponsored RNTCP using a web-application called Nikshay.

The scheme is implemented by state governments and union territory administrations through government health facilities and registered private health facilities.

The notification further provides that an individual, who does not possess Aadhaar or has not yet enrolled for Aadhaar and wishes to avail of the benefits under the scheme, shall have to apply for Aadhaar latest by 31.08.2017.

It reiterates the responsibility of the Department of Health and Family Welfare to offer Aadhaar enrollment facilities to those who have not enrolled yet.
